Lou Vega a thump to the brain

Well those who have been around me at all since before Christmas know of the roller coaster of pain I've been feeling in my right shoulder - sudden onset with no known cause (no crash, injury, etc.) and when I went to the doc first I was first given some pain meds which made me pretty loopy (Lortab 5/500) and I couldn't stand being so darn loopy especially when it didn't kill the pain altogether. So next he gave me some giant Napercin pills which didn't feel much better.

Finally I was sent off to an orthopedic surgeon who ordered an MRI one day and two days later (February 1st) I was in his surgical office to get a cortisone injection. So after I'm sedated and laying there waiting for the injection I can kind of feel him poking around my upper neck/back area and when the needle went in a very intense jolt of pain shot down my entire arm and it felt like bolts shot out of my fingertips...I tried to yell at him that it hurt but at first I couldn't...and as he kept going the pain got worse and finally I just started yelling that it hurt but I couldn't do much more...that's the last thing I remember before I'm in the recovery room and was told by the nurse that the injection didn't go as planned (gee, ya think?) and that the doctor was prescribing me a bunch more medicine to help me (Prednesone, Lortab 7.5/500 and Ambien). I half remember the doctor coming in and telling me that he hit a wrong nerve or something and then my dad took me home.

I crashed pretty hard and then woke up around 4:30 in the afternoon in a lot of pain because my whole right hand was swollen up big...couldn't close my fist and it actually hurt to try. Also there was a lot of numbness and tingling in my right hand and lots of pain in my forearm and shoulder. I took some medicine and tried to stay awake for a while before finally crashing at 8:30pm

Woke up this morning feeling pretty much the same...but later in the morning the swelling started to go down and the pain was at a manageable level even with all the medications. Fortunately for me at work all I had to do was sit in a Sprint Planning meeting for the next sprint on our development project...

Fast forward to tonight and the swelling's gone down mostly (I can type again!) but I still have numbness and tingling in my right hand fingers. At least the doctor called today to follow up...I was pretty pissed yesterday but today had too much going on to think about it.

Well - at least January was off to a good start, and I suppose there's still hope for this month.

Hope you feel better. Whats the diagnosis? Bad carpel tunnel? Hope "hit-the-wrong-nerve" didnt cause any adverse effects.

Diagnosis is I've got a pinched nerve between discs or something...the "hit the wrong nerve" is still causing occasional numbness, tingling, etc. in my right hand and pain in my arm, but the main thing, the intense pain and swelling went away.

All said I'm not better off for having gone to the doctor in this instance and in fact have come away a little worse off :(
