Visual Studio ALM Blog by Jahangeer

If you want to connect to TFS 2010 Server using Visual Studio 2005 Client, then you need to Install the below components in mentioned order. The Installation order is really important to make it work.

- Install Visual Studio 2005
- Download and install Team Explorer 2005
- Download and install Visual Studio 2005 SP1
- Download and install VSTS 2005 Forward Compatibility Update

If you  want to apply Team Explorer 2005 to connect TFS2010 on the machine that has VS2005 SP1 installed, please try the following steps in order:

- Download and install Team Explorer 2005
- Re-apply Visual Studio 2005 SP1 to upgrade Team Explorer 2005 to SP1
- Download and install VSTS 2005 Forward Compatibility Update

As TFS2010 introduces the notion of Team Project Collections. After the installation is completed successfully, you should provide the entire URL to connect TFS2010 server.
You can express the connection string as follows:

http://<serverName>:<port>/<vdir>/<collectionName> (e.g. http://TfsServer:8080/Tfs/ProjectCollectionName)

The <vdir> is an optional path for the TFS web sites specified by the administrator during setup. By default it is “tfs”.

I almost included the statement that it would but I'm not quite ready to promise that. We still have a few decisions left to make that could affect some parity issues. I don't think they are going to be big but until we've decided I'd rather not speculate.Conservatory Prices

Another great example of innovation, I am glad to find it. There are so many developers working on this segment but this is one of the best innovative idea ever.Intimately, the post is actually the best on this laudable topic

In practice the idea may provide a coherent underlying architecture on which to build processes that aid organizations and institutions to manage the social returns of their
investment in a transparent and quantifiable way.

I see where everybody says reload Visual Studio 2005 SP1,
does the team foundation 2010 still let VS2005 client connect with SP2?

After I installed the following programs
- Team Explorer 2005
- Visual Studio 2005 SP1 to upgrade Team Explorer 2005 to SP1
- VSTS 2005 Forward Compatibility Update

The "Connect to Team Foundation Server..." entry is now available on VS 2005 <Tools> menu.

But I still get the error of "Server name cannot contain '/',':' or start with http://' or 'https://'" when I add http://phlnceecorcid01:8080/tfs/NHPPD at the input field "Team Foundation Server Name:" on the popup window "Add Team Foundation Server".
Please help,
Thanks

when connecting to TFS from VS2005, the popup seeking credentials is coming again and again and it takes around 20 to 30 min to connect completely. After connecting to it, the VS is getting struck frequesntly and closed sometimes. Any suggestions on these issues?
