I have to admit to a certain degree of puzzlement regarding the uproar over the new iPhone 4’s alleged reception issues.

( First, I have to qualify this and say that I don’t own an iPhone and have not personally experienced the problem.)

However, from a technical standpoint, I’m not sure why anyone can be shocked that when they cross and short two antennas the results can less than optimal.

As the antenna are integrated into the sides of the phone, anyone placing a conductive material across both surfaces will cross both the antennas and effectively negate their performance.  This is the very reason why there is a visible break in the stainless steel!

This can be fixed rather easily by simply wrapping the sides in a nonconductive material.

Not really rocket science here… ;-)
