Non-Spoiler Review
I went in with 0 expectations and was pleasantly surprised. The movie is a great base for future Star Trek movies and reboots the series in a way that purists and new fans can appreciate (I think anyway…I’m not Trekkie ;) ). Definitely worth a watch. 3.5 out of 5

Spoiler Review
The movie was good, don’t get me wrong. But it was plagued with the same thing as Wolverine: a less-than climactic final battle scene that seemed to end all too quickly. It was like it was an after thought to the bigger goal of establishing the characters for the next Star Trek movie.
I also struggled with the dumb-ass Romulan bad guy. Now, maybe I just don’t get the whole time travel/space time continuum thing, but follow me on this:
Romulan guy is pissed because in the future his planet gets destroyed and Spock doesn’t get there in time to save the planet. He somehow has the ability to travel through time, so he ends up going after Spock instead of attempting to save his own homeworld? Wouldn’t he just have tried to just save his homeworld? Maybe I missed something…
But all that weirdness aside, it was a good movie. Not crazy stellar but the first of a series rarely is (Sorry, A New Hope was the worst of the three Star Wars…totally just laid plot).
