Weird Word Problem

Wednesday, April 2, 2008 12:48 PM

I've been Googling this and haven't found a difinitive answer...hoping someone out there might have some insight.

I'm trying to print a Word document. This Word document has images in it. However, whenever the document gets to that page in the printing process (by seeing the little icon telling you what page is being processed), a funny thing happens:

My computer crashes.

This happens on a co-workers machine as well with the same document. It's not the image itself...if I copy/paste the image into a new Word document it prints without a problem. Any thoughts on why this might be happening? An issue with varying versions of Word (2000/XP/2003)?

sounds like a problem with the postscript part of your printer drivers. Your co-worker is he printing on the same printer with the same drivers? Or is he printing on a different printer? 4/2/2008 3:13 PM | Cam

I used to have this when printing a PDF to a NT4 print server (to a UNIX Xerox printer) from XP. The machine would just turn off (complete power down - no shutdown, no options, just off - as if someone had unplugged it). The deal was that we had old print drivers to support some fax system in our environment. It was strange. My fix was to bypass the print server and go directly against the printer's IP with an XP/Xerox print driver.

Not sure if that apply's to your environment - but maybe gives you some more things to check.
