Learning alot about Mac's...like "RTFM with any Mac Beta Stuff"

So I did a few things bad with my Boot Camp install:

First off, you need Windows XP WITH Service Pack 2. I tried to use a Windows XP OEM disk I got with my last PC, but apparantly that's a big no no with BC.

Secondly, I didn't update the firmware upgrade. That's really really bad, and I just assumed that I must have the latest since my Mac was so new and factory direct...but no, its gotta be there.

Thirdly, I didn't RTFM. I should have, and taken it seriously, as I did read the firmware bit beforehand, but didn't think it was THAT big a deal.

One thing that I'm realizing is that Mac's are different from PC's in so many ways. They aren't made for the enthusiast gear-wise, they're made for enthusiasts user-wise; people that are hyped on the software, and the use, and the Mac-factor (whatever that is to individuals). You don't get a Mac if you want to open it up and understand how the hardware works; Macs aren't meant for that. Getting excited about the applications available and the use of said applications, that's what a Mac is. The new 24" iMacs have the first video card-swappable system, which is a big deal for iMacs! Video cards prior to the 24" are soldered on to the logic board (term Mac's use for the motherboard), so you can't upgrade without major surgery, and you can't do that surgery yourself!

So where's my Mac? Its at a local Mac shop where they're going to help get it going. The guy I talked to is engaged to a co-worker of my wife's, and he knows his stuff, so I'm not too worried. More mad at myself that I'm still without my Mac for a few more days, and because of my own idiocy. I should have just bought a copy of WoW for Mac...

If you are into WoW, you might want to check your disks. I bought my copy on CDs and it is both PC and Mac versions.

My apologies if this is a double post... I clicked submit, and then nothing happened :-) 9/23/2006 7:31 PM | Jason Whitehorn
