Today students are working on lesson 11 which covers properties of the datagrid and the Mxdatagrid. Students learn how to use sorting, autoformatting, paging and much more. It's a very easy lesson for students to follow and they learn how easy it is to use webmatrix web controls.

Here's an example of an application:

Lesson 12 works on the Select statement, Where, Order, And clause and more. Students learn the code wizards that comes with Webmatrix.

When you selelct code view, you will see the wizards listed on the left hand side. All you need is to drag and drop the wizard you want to use and then give select commands from dialog box for that wizard. Like this:

It's nice to see a preview of the command and there's one to view:

Finally, a method of what you've selected is created and then used with the button even for the form.

Here's the code behind the button:

Sub Button1_Click(sender As Object, e As EventArgs)
     DataGrid1.DataSource= QM_AllArtistJournal ()
     DataGrid1.databind
End Sub

Web design students do understand what's going on with creating the query, storing it withing a method, and then using a button event to view the query.

This lesson teaches important concepts about working with a database and I can't emphasize it enough that real world applications are important to teach to high school students and webmatrix makes it easy for them to learn these concepts.
