A Windows 7 looking Terminal Server

Last time I posted as an old-school admin. You know what is wrong with old-schoolers ? Not old-schooled but rather outdated way of thinking. Many of us are still living in 80-thies and trying to develop Terminal Services environments in two colors and the highest possible compression level. What is another way of performance tuning? Let disable and remove everything, let will be nothing. Do you need a proof? Ask yourself did you remove the clock from the taskbar. If the answer is yes, you know what I am talking about. The question is why we are doing it, and the answer is simple – because of WAN. Now it the time to wake up. WAN connections are 10 times faster than 5 or 10 years ago. But what is more important, our users are different. They will not be begging for a fileshare anymore. If they need some shared storage, they will use DropBox or GDrive, they will access corporate env using BYOD ultrabooks, Macs, mobiles and tablets.

So, the question is: should a good sheriff put all citizens into the jail because they need some freedom? In my opinion the good sheriff should take care of a good atmosphere and a wise level of security in his town. Not only execute outdated law. My advice: apply yours polices to yourself and try to work for one day. I think it will be the best lesson of empathy at work.

Ok, let's create a good looking Terminal Server:

Import-Module ServerManager
Add-WindowsFeature Desktop-Experience, RDS-RD-Server -restart

After the reboot:

Set-Service themes -StartupType Automatic
Start-Service themes

Did I mention about auto-tuning protocols. Tomorrow try to read about it during your morning coffee.

Oh.... I almost forgot …. There is one more thing …
