Anyone else besides me have the pleasure of learning how to use a computer from the robust and yet simple C 64??

For those who want a walk down memory lane:

I remember "saving" programs I wrote in basic code onto "data" cassettes as a geek in my youth.

I got a crazy idea once to try to "play" one of these tapes in my audio tape deck..BAD IDEA  =)

I got the chance to remember the C64 in college b/c my digital electronics course used the C64 to teach us assembly code.

(looks fondly into the distance)

I briefly had a C64, but I did most of my computing on a Tandy TRS-80. GOD that thing was awful. It actually only had one data slot for peripherals, so if you wanted to plug in a peripheral or cartridge that required a program to run, you had to write / type the program FROM SCRATCH every time, because -- duh -- there was nowhere to put the external floppy drive.

Ahhhhgoodtimes.

My parents, in their infinite wisdom, bought an Atari 400. No storage device, no on board programming language, and a child proof keyboard. So I found a screwdriver and became a hardware guy.

My friend down the street, rich girl that she was, did have a C64 and that cool programmable robot toy--she's ruling the world now I'm sure.

I think I'm going to look for an easy programming environment so the kids don't take out their creativity on the motherboard. . ..
