When the dolphins left earth when the Vogons were about to destroy it they told the humans "So Long and Thanks for all the Fish". Two weeks ago on a Monday I submitted my resignation to Planet Technologies. There comes a point in time when a company serves its purpose in your life and you have to walk away. I feel like that time has come. I really enjoyed my time working at Planet. Thanks to the following people:
- Patrick Curran
- Greg Hurlman
- Matt Barger
- Michael Van Cleave
- Rob Horan
- Ken Amann
- Fabian Williams
- Shannon Bray
- Miguel Wood
- Don Kirkham
- Katie Tobin
- Matt Bramer
- Jim Bob Howard
- Xenox Garavito
- a ton of others...
I feel like I learned a lot from these guys and they helped to get me to this point in time. I had a lot of good times with these guys hanging out at conferences, such as TechED or SPC or SPSes. I will see them around in the community.
So what's next for me?
I have decided that after 8 years of working constantly and planning just about every trip for the past 5 years around SPSes I'm taking a month long vacation. At the end of this vacation I will have completed the 48 inland states and all I will need to do to state that I've been to every state is plan a trip to Alaska and Hawaii. Most of the states are out west and include the following cities/parks:
- Keystone, SD
- Yellowstone
- Bismark, ND
- Denver, CO
- Dallas, TX
- Albuquerque, NM
- San Diego, CA
- Sacramento, CA
- San Francisco, CA
- Portland, OR
- Crater Lake National Park
- Phoenix, AZ
- Grand Canyon National Park
- Painted Desert/Petrified Forest
- Highway 1 in CA (from San Francisco to Los Angeles)
- Lake Forest, CA
- Boise, Idaho
- Saint Louis, MO
- Kansas City, MO
This trip is going to refresh me, so that I can start my new job on November 4th. I will make an announcement once I have finalized the details. I am also moving to Hoboken 2 weeks after I get back from my trip. I have a lot of big changes coming up, but I believe they are for the best. I am hoping this energizes and refreshes me, so that I can start going to more events. So as I've been stating the past few months...To the Undiscovered Country!
